Aloha Friday

I am back and trying to get better at posting on my blog! I love Aloha Friday and visiting every one's blogs!
My question of the week.......
How many extra curricular activities do you let your kids participate in?
We have four children and we have always had the rule that they could each be involved in one after school activity. I have a HS volleyball player, a 6th grade soccer player, a 4th grade football player and a Kindergarten soccer player.
That keeps me in the mom taxi after school driving to all the practices. Thank goodness for other Moms that help out! I couldn't do it without them.
Have a great weekend y'all!
Leave a comment about your kids activities and also head to my Wednesday post with a giveaway for your favorite teacher!

Aloha Friday

The election is just about a month and a half away. I have listened to debates, read articles on the Internet and have come to a decision on who I am going to vote for.

Do you know who you are going to vote for?
(Just a yes or no.... not who you are going to vote for unless you want to!)

New Lights- Aloha Friday

After the antibiotics kicked in I decided to replace the four very old and ugly lights outside our house. We had picked up four new lights at Lowe's on Sunday and they had been sitting in our garage just waiting to make an appearance.

I turned the power off at the electrical box just to make sure I did not electrocute myself, took off the old light and put up the new light. It took about an hour for all four and I thought they turned out pretty good. I put new 100 watt long lasting bulbs in and now our house is lit up like a beacon.

Recycling

With everyone "Going Green" these days I thought our family would jump on the bandwagon and start our own recycling program. We have garbage pick up once a week with no recycling. We usually had about 7 or 8 bags of trash and sometimes more if I had cleaned out a closet or my garage that week.

About 2 weeks ago we bought 4 big plastic tubs and labeled them with Cans, Plastic, cardboard and Paper. I was amazed at how much of our trash could be recycled. After about a week of recycling we had 4 bags of trash to take to the curb. The bins were slowly getting filled.

This is what they look like today. I will be making a trip to our local recycling center today to drop everything off. The kids have had a great time putting everything in the correct spot. One of the teachers collects the tabs off of cans so we have been pulling those off for her. We have also done a better job of getting the Box Top for Education labels off the boxes and our school is saving the water bottle labels for more money. So with this new change of recycling in our home we have been able to help out our school and some others.

Aloha Friday- Can you Sew?

As most of you know I have my own Business J Designs. I make baby gifts and other things. I have tried several times to make clothes but just can never get the hang of the patterns and all the instructions. Remember, I had great plans to make this cute Amy Butler Messenger bag? Too many pattern pieces and not enough time.

Well, I ordered this kit to make Abigale the Parisian dress with Amy Butler fabric. It arrived yesterday and I made it immediately. Abigale loved it and will probably wear it for her pre-school orientation on Monday.

(the cute clips were included as a gift from the seller)

So my question for today is....

Do you sew? Do you think you could make this dress that comes in a kit?

School Supplies

Today started our Tax Free Weekend here in Missouri! So we headed to the Mall to pick up some much needed jeans and then to Walmart for all the school school supplies and socks and underwear. School starts August 20 here in our town.

When we got home all the craziness began. Sorting the folders, binders, pencils, erasers, and highlighters. With four children we had a ton of supplies.

Have you bought your school supplies yet? When does your school start? Do you have a Tax Free Weekend in your state?

Happy Fourth of July!! (Aloha Friday)

I hope all of you are having a great Fourth of July!!

We had a great time going to the parade downtown today. Tonight we will head to the park with our blanket and watch the fireworks with friends and family!

(The Fire Department hangs a huge flag over the street)

( Only in Vermont do the Shriners ride SnowMobiles

instead of the motorcycles or little cars)

Did you see a parade today?
Will you see fireworks tonight?

I Know! I know!..It's been awhile!

I Know! I know!..It's been awhile! It will prob be like this all summer. We have been busy with swim lessons for Abigale, Summer Program at school for Rebecca and Hayden and Katherine has been babysitting a ton lately.

We have been going to the library for their summer reading program, to the pool, having friends spend the night. Speaking of spend the night, we will have a crew here tonight watching "Camp Rock". They each have a friend over to watch the new Disney movie.

We live in subdivision that has a golf course and several large ponds. The kids have been fishing most evening since it stays light here until around 9:15. Busy Dad can even get home and fish with them.
They are now at the age to carry their poles, bait their own hook and with team work can unhook their fish...

I am getting ready to take a trip to Vermont to visit my parents and all of my relatives. It will take two days to get there and we are stopping in OH to stay with my BIL and SIL. Can't wait!

(I love this vinyl monogram...you can get yours here)

I will be driving the monogrammed SUV with all four kids by myself. Busy Dad has to work and will fly up to meet us later in July. We will head towards Washington D.C. with a stop to meet and visit with Rhonda and her crew. (Rhonda- I promise my crew will behave and hopefully you won't regret your decision to meet the Wilson-six)

Did I mention that along with the four kids "George" will be going with us? He is such a help in the car. While I drive he makes sure I don't take a wrong turn. He even has a cool British accent!! The kids named our new GPS George.

I am still getting used to him being in the car but I know it will be great on my two day trip to VT! I got mine at Walmart with free shipping when I had it sent to my local store.

This fun and action packed vacation will lead us to Arlington cemetery where we will have a Full Military Funeral for Busy Dad's Father. I know it will be very hard for the family but the ceremony will be beautiful.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we take to the road and as we say goodbye to a wonderful man.

Aloha Questions of the Week

**Are you going to watch "Camp Rock"*****

**Do you have a GPS? And do you love it?*****

****Have you ever been to Arlington National Cemetery?*****

Some of my Favorite things

*********Update***********
Kim Sue is the winner of the Ikea bag! Thanks for playing along everyone. Kim- email me your address so I can send you your bag!!
I am sure you have products in your house that you love! Kristi had a post today about her Endorsements. I have snapped a few pictures of things that I love. (Sharpies!! I love all kinds, colors and shapes! I am kind of addicted to them actually)(Bath and Body Amber Myrrh. It is from their Breathe Romance line. I love this scent. I am bummed that they are discontinuing it. So if you haven't tried it go stock up now. The lotion is wonderful!)I have tried these Magic Erasers and love them. I discovered that Walmart carries their own store brand which work just as well and cost less.I drink this every morning and night. I love it!We love chips and salsa and chips and cheese dip. I found these chips taste just like the restaurant chips. They are super thin and salty!I got a sample of this and love it. It cleans my dust and will get anything sticky that has landed on my wood table or my blinds. It smells good too! Finally...I love these plastic bags from Ikea. I got the stripe one last year when I was in Dallas (that is the closest Ikea to me) My friend Kim sent me the blue and green one a while back! These fold up and can carry tons of stuff. They are very inexpensive too!!

*****Aloha question of the week****
Do you have some favorite things? Write a post and link back here! I will leave this up for a week and next Friday will give away one of my favorite things!!

A bag from IKEA!

What's in a Name?

Two and a half years ago when I started this blog I really did not take much time when coming up with a name. I was so original. I put my last name and how many were in our family. Wilson-six.

It was after ready blog after blog and seeing the catchy names, phrases and just down right cute blog design that I realized I really was not fond of the Wilson-six. So I have been debating on changing the look and name of my blog. I think I have decided on a name and now am working on the look part of it.

So my Aloha question is....

*** Did you take a lot of time when coming up with your blog name?***

**What does your blog name mean to you?*****

**If you could rename my blog what would you come up with?*****
Wanna play alomg? Just head over to Island Life and add your question to Aloha Friday.

Birthday Party Ideas

As all of you know my oldest turned 13 last week. We had 15 girls spend the night Saturday night. While everyone was being dropped off we were under a Tornado Warning and it was a bit hectic. Thank goodness we have a basement! Finally the sun came out and the party began.

Katherine loves doing crafts so I had all the girls make their own personalized clipboards. This was a neat idea since it was a several step process of painting the boards with Modge Podge and then letting it dry then doing the same with the back and letting it dry. In between steps we cooked out hot dogs, opened gifts, played guitar hero and ate cookie cake.
(I only burned myself once with the glue gun!)

(All the girls with their clipboards)

I had also set up a black back drop for a photo booth. I took pictures of all the girls doing silly things. They even got into Abigale's tiaras and had those on their heads. I printed the photos out in a column of four pictures and at the bottom I put "Thank you for coming to my Party, Love Katherine"

(I had Rebecca and Abigale test out the photo

booth before the party started)

When Katherine wrote her thank you notes she included the pictures of each girl that had been taken and we put in a group shot that I had taken. I went to Walmart at their self service photo kiosk and put "Katherine's 13th Birthday" at the bottom of the picture. It turned out cute.

The girls watched 13 going on 30 before they all fell asleep. I kind of warned them that they were not going to stay up to all hours since the next day was Mother's Day. I think it helped that all but three girls were on Katherine's soccer team and they had played two games in Arkansas that day.

So the girls took home a clipboard and had some fun photo's for their party favor.

My Aloha Questions are these....

***What fun thing have you given out for party favors?****

***Have you ever had 15 girls spend the night at your house?******

****Do you have a teenager in your house?*********

I'm Back

I am back after a long bloggy break! Did you miss me? Where have I been? Well, its been quite a few weeks and I have been a bit busy. Busy you say? What have I been doing? Well, if you really want to know....

We put our house on the market two weeks ago and there was alot of work that lead up to the sign being hammered in the ground. I won't bore you with the details but lets just say after tons of trips to Goodwill dropping off bags of clothes, ripping out old bushes and re-mulching the flower beds, and filling the window boxes and pots with pretty curb appeal flowers..... I was so glad to put that sign in the yard.

Why are we selling our house? Busy Dad has been commuting to a different state every day for 2 1/2 years. That would be an hour in the morning and and hour in the evening. With gas prices rising almost daily and the kids already in bed when he gets home...its getting kind of old. So wish us luck that our house sells before August when school starts.

We have three birthdays in May. Hayden turned 8 last week and he had a skating party with all of his friends.
Katherine turned 13 today!
Yes, we have a teenager in the house! Busy Dad celebrates his birthday next week.

This week has been teacher appreciation at all of the kids schools. So I have been sending things in each day for two of my children's teachers. Katherine felt like she was too old to participate but that did not stop me from making monogrammed key chains for all of her teachers!! Abigale only goes twice a week so she only had to bring in two things.
So my Aloha Question this week is....
****Do you have Teacher Appreciation Week at your school?****
*****Do you send things in? Are you crafty with your gifts?*****
