Gingerwood houses and Aloha Friday

Think of all the years I actually made real Gingerbread from scratch and cut out the walls, roof and door. Then carefully put it together without the roof falling in.

I then resorted to buying the Wilton kit with the pieces already made and all I had to do was put it together.

Last year I bought four kits from our Sams club and all four children put their own houses together.

But check this out. I am not sure it can get any easier than this...Unless of course Martha Stewart makes one and delivers it to my front door!!

You can sign up to win one over at Everything is Pink.

Aloha!! So my Aloha Friday question is this...

So do you and your family decorate a Gingerbread house? If so do you make just one or do you make several?

I love making gingerbread houses (although I usually cheat and use graham crackers.) I'm going to try and make one with my son for the first time this Chrismas.

We have so much fun making gingerbread houses. It's hard to not eat it all up after we've finished it.

One year we made several. Josh made one in his class, and my mom made one with Katelyn, and then we made one all together.

I love to do gingerbread houses, we buy the kits. I would make the gingerbread part myself if I knew how. I couldn't do a wooden one, there's something disturbing about it. I miht have to resort to a foamie house this year though, because our new building has a horrible roach problem. When I set out butter to soften, I have to creat a moat of water around it to keep the bugs away, so imagine what they'd do with a gingerbread house!

Last year was the first year I made a gingerbread house with my daughter. It came out of a box and was easy, which is why I made it. ;-)

I found you through the Fall Bloggy Giveaway... I was scrolling through some comments and saw "Roll Tide" and just had to drop by for a visit!

Roll Tide!

Nope, have never done a gingerbread house, except with my kids at preschool twice.

My mother came to my house years ago and made "gingerbread" houses with my children out of icing and graham crackers, M&Ms, Nuts, Marshmellows, yada, yada, yada. Everyone made their own. We then displayed them for a few days and they soon began to disappear. It was very kewl.

This is not something that we do as a matter of "tradition", but we HAVE done it a few times. Once, when the kids were very small, I just made one and we all shared it. Another time, when they got a bit older they asked if they could each make one - so we did that - and I made one too! Then a couple of years ago, just my youngest daughter wanted to make one -- all by herself, and so that happened also! When I was a kid, my mom's boss used to have one sent to our family and I remember having them -- but I don't ever remember EATING them! LOL!

We've never done the gingerbread house thing, but my late sis-in-law used to make one ever year. It became a family tradition: she'd make the gingerbread house and her brothers (incl. Dear Hubby) would use fireworks to try to detonate it on New Year's Eve (along with the over-ripe Halloween Jack-o-latern).

She passed away five years ago, and she must've used Liquid Nails to assemble her last gingerbread house. No amount of "explosives" were able to wreck it. I guess she got the last laugh.

Nope. I've never done that. I used to get my kids and nephews wonderful Gingerbread boys from the local bakery. But, sadly, it went out of business and the only bakeries we have are in supermarkets (not the same).

No more homemade hot cross buns, either. :-(

We do love this, but we are also like meisha- we use graham crackers and canned frosting! We still end up with lots of goey, sugar-covered, dripping, some-what cottage creations! Fun is had by all!!

I just found your blog - so cute! We mae a gingerbread house every year from the kits. My kids love doing it. I have to say, though, I'm kind of intrigued by the wooden one. I like that you can put lights in it and you can decorate it for other holidays.

I don't think I've ever made one but have always wanted to.

Did you get my thank you email?
