I like that you can put lights in it and you can decorate it for other holidays.Mrs. Preschoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02585818376988814873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35061558.post-24682115305401736352007-11-03T19:02:00.000-05:002007-11-03T19:02:00.000-05:00We made our first one last year. But, sadly, it went out of business and the only bakeries we have are in supermarkets (not the same).

No more homemade hot cross buns, either. :-(

Have you submitted a post for the November 5, 2007, Carnival of Family Life? It became a family tradition: she'd make the gingerbread house and her brothers (incl. Dear Hubby) would use fireworks to try to detonate it on New Year's Eve (along with the over-ripe Halloween Jack-o-latern).

She passed away five years ago, and she must've used Liquid Nails to assemble her last gingerbread house. No amount of "explosives" were able to wreck it. I guess she got the last laugh.Elle*Beehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10604921872829122749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35061558.post-42940756351136146682007-11-02T19:53:00.000-05:002007-11-02T19:53:00.000-05:00This is not something that we do as a matter of "t...This is not something that we do as a matter of "tradition", but we HAVE done it a few times. Once, when the kids were very small, I just made one and we all shared it. Another time, when they got a bit older they asked if they could each make one - so we did that - and I made one too! Then a couple of years ago, just my youngest daughter wanted to make one -- all by herself, and so that happened also! When I was a kid, my mom's boss used to have one sent to our family and I remember having them -- but I don't ever remember EATING them! Everyone made their own. We then displayed them for a few days and they soon began to disappear. It was very kewl.Sandihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10838292657538713126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35061558.post-60362666123988083882007-11-02T17:50:00.000-05:002007-11-02T17:50:00.000-05:00Nope, have never done a gingerbread house, except ...Nope, have never done a gingerbread house, except with my kids at preschool twice.Debhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03806252705199445407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35061558.post-8448171862873110792007-11-02T17:02:00.000-05:002007-11-02T17:02:00.000-05:00Last year was the first year I made a gingerbread ...Last year was the first year I made a gingerbread house with my daughter. I would make the gingerbread part myself if I knew how. I couldn't do a wooden one, there's something disturbing about it. I miht have to resort to a foamie house this year though, because our new building has a horrible roach problem. When I set out butter to soften, I have to creat a moat of water around it to keep the bugs away, so imagine what they'd do with a gingerbread house!Memarie Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03289584923725420572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35061558.post-75176246841896815472007-11-02T13:53:00.000-05:002007-11-02T13:53:00.000-05:00We have so much fun making gingerbread houses.
