Pretty Ornaments

The girls have been making these pretty glitter ornaments. They are so easy to make that my 8 year old whipped some up last night all by herself.

My daughter Becca found the directions on Pinterest. We are all slightly addicted to Pinterest. I have tagged a ton of things but haven't made alot.

If you want to make these all you need is floor wax, like Pledge liquid or Future found in the cleaning section at Walmart etc. Fine glitter. We used some we found at Walmart. Martha Stewart also makes very pretty glitter.

Pour the liquid wax into the ornament and swish it all around making sure to coat the entire inside of ornament. Then pour out extra. Now pour in the fine glitter and swish it around so that the ornament is covered completely on the inside. Pour the extra out and you can use it for your next ornament. That's it! Easy Peasy!

I just recently figured out how to print onto fabric. My mind is working overtime thinking of all the things I can do with that. I made a few pillows with a quote from a song that I like. I will do a tutorial later on how to print onto fabric later in the week.

It was a great football weekend at our house. The Carl Junction HS won their football game and Alabama and Auburn both won. Since our house is divided equally between Alabama and Auburn it is always good when everyone is a winner. While everyone was cheering for their teams I was in the sewing room making these cute pillows. I haven't put them in my Etsy shop yet so if you want one just send me an email jwilsonsix@gmail.com

Blessed

I have been blessed to have such a wonderful family. I am able to work at the kids schools as a Substitute Teacher, attend all the sports activities that having four children entails, attempt to keep caught up on the laundry and have fun making new things for J Designs.

I spent today working on a friends layette. She dropped off some cute baby sleep sacks and fabric and asked me to make a few things. I added the Onesie to the Etsy shop.

Flower pins and and Hair clips

I love these flower pins that Emily with Jones Design Company made. Her blog is fantastic and she has so many tutorials!

I made these at Christmas time for little gifts to send to family in New Hampshire. I started with just making them pins but later decided I would add a hair clip to the back as well. This way they could be used both ways. I first made them using red, black and brown fabric but this summer wanted to make them a little brighter. I added hot pink, yellow, orange, blue and green to the mix.

I know its been a super long time since I have blogged but here's hoping I can get back to posting on some regular basis.

We just got back from a great trip to New Hampshire and Vermont. Thanks to my Mom for getting all of us started on making leather bead wrap bracelets.

We used this tutorial and kind of made our own adjustments as we went along.

Supplies needed

leather cord- we used black and brown 1mm

beads- any size that a needle can pass through

needle

beading string- we started with white and as we made more we switched to black

clip board

button for closure

Only 6 days until I get to meet Ree Drummond of Pioneer Woman fame and I get to stay at her Lodge in Oklahoma!!

We enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving here in Missouri this year. We have traveled to Alabama the last three years to see family and friends but decided to stay here and attempt the cooking etc.

The day was beautiful and cold after some crazy weather left us with Tornado's and 70 degree weather on Wednesday to 19 degree Thanksgiving morning. I made printed place mats and place card holders from here which was fun for all the kids. We all went around the table telling what we were thankful for and then the grazing commenced.

I did a little Black Friday Shopping at the Mall but got there at the respectable hour of 10:00 AM, unlike Busy Dad who took Rebecca and Hayden out at 11:30 pm and got home sometime early this morning. I think they had fun watching all the crazy people out early this morning.

Lunch with Friends

Today I had a wonderful lunch with some very unique, insightful, and entertaining ladies. I had a rare Friday off from subbing and I was caught up on all my orders. Having this lunch was like the cherry on top of a long week.

I have lived in Missouri for over 5 years and have never been to Sandstone Gardens. It only took about 20 minutes to get there and it was so pretty.

This is where I had lunch.

We all enjoyed lunch and then walked around the huge rooms of Christmas decorations.

I wish I could decorate my whole house with all their things.

Yes, You heard me right. I was one of the four lucky people that was randomly chosen out of over 40,000 comments to spend the weekend at Pioneer Woman's Lodge!! You can read about the contest here.

There were four winners and we each get to bring a friend. I had texted my friend Ann the day the contest was posted and we both agreed if one of us won we would take the other person. Who in a million years thought one of us would win? Not me that is for sure.

I can't wait to meet the other winners. Molly, Jenna and Christy.

Bookplates

I was enjoying my morning of not subbing and looking through my Blogs that I love to read. Just Something I Made by Cathe Holden is one of my favorites! She always has tons of free PDF graphic files of cute things. This morning was no different.

She had found an old German Reader and scanned in some of the artwork. She came up with cute vintage animal bookplates. I am currently putting a birthday package together for an avid reader and thought this would be perfect to add to it.

I have so many crafting supplies that I didn't have to buy a thing.

Supplies needed to make it look like mine:

full sheet of sticky label

glassine bag

brown and white twine

I just printed out her PDF file onto a full size sheet of sticker paper, then cut out all the book plates. She even has a cute wrapper that you can put around your finished product and a sticker to seal the deal. Since I printed the entire sheet on sticker paper I just peeled off the wrapper and stuck it to a blank piece of paper and then cut it out and wrapped it around all the labels.

I had recently bought two different sized of glassine bags to put my Etsy shop happies in. These labels fit perfectly in the bag. I folded the flap down and used one of her stickers that she included to seal it up. Of course I had to add some twine to pull it all together.

Back to School

All four of my children started back to school today!!!

I have a Sophomore, 7th grader, 5th grader and First grader!!!

This means a hectic and crazy time at our house!! Especially with Cross Country, Volleyball, Football and Soccer going on at the same time.

Black Bean Salsa

This is one of the best tasting Salsa's I have had!

Thought I would share it with everyone!!

Black Bean Salsa

1 can black beans- rinse in colander first
1 can regular rotel
1 can shoepeg corn
chop a bunch of cilantro (I like lots and lots!!)
1/4 cup Paul Newman's Olive Oil and Vinegar salad dressing

Mix together in a bowl and start eating with chips! Scoops are the best because you can hold lots of the salsa in them!

Family Time

We have had a busy and fun summer so far. School starts in 21 days or so the kids just informed me. I took the kids to Vermont for two weeks by myself with Walt flying up for the long Fourth of July Weekend.

Everyone is done with their camps and now we can just sleep in and have lazy summer days. haha I think that is probably wishful thinking.

My BFF Jen drove up from Alabama this week with her two girls and while she was here we she took our family pictures. She is a talented photographer and my friends were quickly calling me setting up sittings while she was here. I got to be the lovely photographer assistant.

I think we had six sittings in 3 days. That doesn't include the quick trips to the pond with my kids throughout the day to snap some pictures or the photo studio she quickly set up in my basement to take individuals of the kids.

Can't believe they are already back in Alabama.

Just started making camera strap slipcovers. These are approx. 3" wide and 23" long. Just slide over existing camera strap. These are padded and feel comfy on your neck!

My oldest turned 15 today! Time has flown by!! We always have a busy May with three birthday's and Mothers Day. Yesterday we celebrated Hayden's 10th birthday at Carousel Park and then after I took Katherine to some friends for a surprise party. Her friends threw together a surprise party that day and she had so much fun. After the party the kids snuck back to our house and forked our yard and wrote in chalk in the driveway. Katherine woke up this morning to balloons and forks all over the yard!

Pinewood Derby

Hayden competed in his first Pinewood Derby Race a couple of weeks ago with his Weblos 1 group. He had a great time and came in Fourth Place out of Eight cars!

Poor Boo

I took our 6 month old puppy Boo to the vet early Wednesday morning to be spayed. She was so upset when I left her there. I picked her up later that day and she had this lovely E-collar around her neck to help prevent her from licking her stitches. She was pretty pitiful. She has been pretty calm these last few days. She even layed out in the sun today with Abigale.

Rebecca had a few friends over today and they migrated into the kitchen and began painting at the kitchen table. Boo was right behind them. She never wants to miss out on any attention that might be given to her by the girls. I went to check on them and this is what I found.

Its Club Volleyball time and we have spent many a Saturday watching Pool Play and Bracket Play. I am slowly learning all the Volleyball lingo. Rebecca tried out for the local Club team in November and made it. She had never played volleyball but was a quick learner. We have had 3 tournaments so far and they won First place twice and Second once! It was really quite thrilling!

Trick or Treat....Miss. No Name Wilson

There is this funny story about how I am out trick or treating with Abigale and my husband calls from neighbors house where he is giving out candy....

Please hurry back to the house there is something I need to show you.

I hurry back on friends golfcart and he has this in his arms.
Her story goes something like this.....

A lady was trick or treating with her children and had this cute little black lab puppy under her jacket. The mother dog had seven puppies and they had given all of them away but this one.........So my sweet husband could not let her walk away with the puppy.
All I can say is Just say NO!! haha

She still has no name....any suggestions?

Today I turn 40!

Hello 40! Am I sad? Not really. I had so much this last decade.

I had two of my children

We moved to Missouri

I made a ton of good friends

My parents moved to NH and now I have driven there twice by myself with kids!

All my babies are in school

I started substitute teaching

I had a great girls weekend in NYC

I am leaving in two weeks for another weekend in NYC

My J Design business has kept me very busy

There are so many more things I could list but my mind is a little fuzzy right now due to having the Flu. One of the drawbacks of substitute teaching. haha

Last year my bestie JenJen made the most amazing video and surprised me by putting it on my blog. She involved all my friends and family to send pics to post on it. I think I will put it on my blog every birthday!

I have been substitute teaching all week for preschool, second grade and today third grade. I have learned alot this week! That if you ring a bell everyone will stop and look at you and hopefully quit talking. If you tell them you are putting a movie on in one hour you have their full attention. Reading the class "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" will get you applause when you are done!

Looking forward to a sports filled weekend yet again. Abigale with soccer, Rebecca reffing, and Hayden with football. Katherine is not in a volleyball tourney this weekend but is helping out at one.

I am hoping to put my Fall/Halloween decorations out this weekend. Last year I made this...My sweet Neighbor twins Cameron and Andrew had pictures yesterday and they wore the cute shirts I made them for their birthday! I took them to school last week and we called my SUV the Magic School Bus. They asked me to play the song by Jason Aldean "My big Green Tractor" We had a ball!

I think its safe to say that we have been extremely busy with Soccer, Volleyball and Football. Wish I could have cloned myself last Saturday!! I needed to be in AR for soccer, Kansas for volleyball and MO for Football!

Vintage Veggie Bags

One of the blogs that I read everyday is Cathe at Just Something I Made. She is a talented graphic designer and always has free designs on her blog. She is fond of everything vintage. She found some great vegetable graphics that she has graciously put on her blog for all of us to download. She has some great ideas on what you can do with them too!

I tried one of her ideas yesterday. I downloaded one of her tomato graphics and uploaded to my Adobe Pagemaker, I added some text and then printed on a brown paper lunch sack ( do this at your own risk!! haha) I had a few paper jams but nothing the printer couldn't handle!

My parents who live in New Hampshire have a garden that is over flowing with veggies right now. So I made them some sacks to put their extras in that they can give to friends and neighbors!

My question of the week.......

How many extra curricular activities do you let your kids participate in?

We have four children and we have always had the rule that they could each be involved in one after school activity. I have a HS volleyball player, a 6th grade soccer player, a 4th grade football player and a Kindergarten soccer player.

That keeps me in the mom taxi after school driving to all the practices. Thank goodness for other Moms that help out! I couldn't do it without them.

She is Six!

Sweet little Abigale turned Six today! She is the baby of the family and will probably always be known as that. We had her party last week at the pool and she had a blast!

Ribbon Outlet

Had some fun at the ribbon outlet in Hagerstown, MD on Tuesday. The kids had a ball finding ribbon and putting it in the basket! I made a ribbon roll today using a paper towel tube.

Hayden Off to Camp

Busy Dad and Hayden flew home Sat night so they could be back in time for Boy Scout Camp. I miss my little boy but hope he is having fun.

The kids have been out of school since the end of May and I don't think I have ever been busier. I thought June and July was summer vacation? haha I know I am the instigator on most of the things we have done so far. Here is a recap.....

Last day of school and the tradition is to run to the playground and wave to all the buses leaving. The bus drivers all honk their horns at the same time and kids let balloons go.

As fast as school ended Abigale started Kindergarten summer school. She rides the bus and goes on field trips. She loves it..especially since every week they give her $5.00 if she doesn't miss any days!! Its just during the month of June.

Brad Paisley and Sugarland Concert in Fayettville Arkansas. The kids were on the front row and were so excited when Brad walked down the stairs and posed for a picture. What a great show! Hayden has gone to two basketball camps and is now doing golf camp.
Hayden has also been busy with Boy scouts. He is a Weblo now!! He has the painted cheeks to prove it!!

We have been to Kansas City two weekends in a row for Rebecca's Soccer tournaments. They came in Second place at the Nutmeg Tournament.While in Kansas City we had time to have a history lesson. Busy Dad never lets these opportunities pass. haha We went to the Presidential Library of Harry S. Truman.

Katherine has gone to one Church camp and will be going on a week long camp later this summer. Katherine has also been getting up early every day in June for Hoops and Nets at the HS. She is lifting weights and working on volleyball.

Rebecca took some time to make some of her Duck Tape purses and donated them to the Children's Miracle Network for a silent auction. It has not been all fun and games here at the Wilson house. The kids all signed up for the summer reading program at our local library. The girls are in the Teen Program and have been taking their friends for reading time and craft time. They made tye die T-shirts last week and journals this week.

Last weekend we went to our town celebration that had rides, good food and a concert. The band that played was Kansas! A little "Dust in the Wind" They sounded great!

My Aunt Polly is one of the craftiest (is that a word?) people I know. For a belated birthday/christmas present she sent me this wonderful scrapbook.

We had taken a trip to Vermont for Christmas last year and she had documented the whole trip for me. There are so many cute details that she included, like my to/from gift tag that was on her gift from me. She had saved it and put it on one of the pages. It was so nice to have a wonderful journal of our two weeks in Vermont.

This morning I was rushing around making beds, cleaning up breakfast, ironing a shirt for Rebecca for Picture Day and urging #4 to WAKE UP!!

Today was Kindergarten Evaluation, where they make you skip and hop, say your numbers, write some letters and say your ABC's. Abigale came running out, after her hour of going from station to station, with a big smile on her face. Very Loudly...."I remembered to say L,M,N,O,P very slow mom!!!"

I was cracking up. We had talked on our ride to school that if she had to say her ABC's she needed to slow down a bit or they would not understand her and she might get some wrong. Well no problem there, #4 is ready for Kindergarten!!

I figured if I wanted to do a post this Month then it was going to have to be a list of some sort. The beginning of the new year is always bitter sweet. All the hustle and bustle of December comes to a screeching halt and then the weather is dreary and the funk sets in. I hate being in a funk but it is what it is. So here is the Wilson-Six Ketchup List.

3) I had a back hoe in my yard last week digging up my yard to find a water leak.

4) The microwave quit working...Busy Dad put a new one in.

7) I am getting ready for all her friends to come over Friday night for a party and sleepover.

8) I took my oldest to the HS orientation last night. I feel old!

9) I turn 40 this year..did I mention I feel old.

10) I need to make 7 hooded towels and 4 notepads, some keychains and a burp cloth

11) Just finished basketball season with Hayden with him making both free throw shots in his last game.

12) Getting ready for Abigale and Rebecca to start Soccer and Katherine to start Track

Inauguration

Today is the 56th Inauguration ceremony. Four years ago today our family was at President George Bush's Inauguration. It was such a wonderful experience for our family. I highly recommend attending one if you are able. I did not have a blog back then so never documented it. I have scanned in our Tickets and invitations so that I can have a digital reminder of what a great time we had.

We left Birmingham Alabama very early Tuesday January 18, 2005. We were very surprised that Senator Shelby was on our flight. When we got off the plane we waited for him to exit and asked to get a photo with him. His wife was nice enough to snap the picture. It wasn't till later that I realized she had cropped part of his head off. haha A day later we were at a reception for Senator Shelby. The invitation was so thick and embossed. I love great stationery! Did I mention I wore long johns under my dress and snow boots to the reception. I changed in the bathroom at the Reception into high heels. It was just so cold riding the metro and all of the snow on the sidewalks would have been miserable in my high heels.(Leaving for Senator Shelby's reception)

My wonderful in laws met us at BWI with two cars. We were a family of six so two cars were needed. One car had the kids and one car dropped Busy Dad and I at a metro station so we could get to the reception for out Governor Bob Riley. I had a disposable camera with me and someone from his staff snapped a photo of us.

The day before the Inauguration we had to take the Metro into DC to pick up our tickets at Senator Shelby's office. They were very nice looking invitations. Thick card stock with gold printing around the edges and the seal at the top. After looking at the map on the back we realized we were in the nose bleed section. haha behind the Reflection Pool on the Mall. We didn't care we were just thrilled to be apart of history. Busy Dad had a distant cousin that working in Kay Bailey Hutchinsons office so we decided to head to her office to see if he was there. We caught him just in time as he was heading to lunch. He showed us around the office and gave us some KBH totebags to hold all of our touristy things. He asked where we were sitting for the inauguration and we showed him our tickets and he said I think I can do better than that and came out with five tickets that had us standing on the Capitol Grounds. The tickets were small and not as impressive as the earlier ones but boy were they fantastic. (Busy Dad with his cousin David in Kay Bailey Hutchinsons office)

We left 17 month old Abigale home with Grandfather. We had read all of the warnings and things that we could take into the ceremony and strollers were one of the banned items. We bundled up the kids in snow pants and parkas and I packed snacks and juice boxes. We hoped on the Metro in Rockville, MD and headed to the Inauguration. When we hopped out of the Metro and came up from underground....we could not believe the lines. They were wrapped around buildings and went on for miles. Well, it seemed that way. They had eight entry points to get into the Inauguration. We found ours close the the Capitol building and waited in line. Busy Dad noticed that another line was opening up and told us to hurry that way. I gave each child their ticket and pushed them forward. Our bags were searched and we were in!! If we had stayed where we were we never would have made it in in time to see everything. We were so lucky!!

We had a great place to watch...We put the kids on the rock wall so they could see the stage and the giant TV's that were there. We were near a speaker so we could hear everything.

After the inauguration we headed over to the parade route to see all the bands and the President and First Lady in the motorcade. We did not have tickets but somehow I found a gate that was being watched by a nice guard and he saw the kids and let us in. We sat in the bleachers and watched the whole thing! ( Laura Bush waved at us from the motorcade. Well, I think it was us)

The day was beautiful. Sunny, cold (but warmed up throughout the day) and just a fantastic memory for us and our children.

Facebook is the new Obsession

I joined Facebook late last year and went to it every so often. Then one day a friend from High School found me and we became "Friends" . Then her HS Friends became my friends and so on and so on. Then one of my sorority sisters (I was a ZTA) found me and then that opened the floodgates of all my sorority sisters on FB. I went from just a few friends to now having over 140 friends. I can see what they are doing when they write on their "Wall" and I can update my Wall from my cell phone. If you have not tried it you don't know what you are missing. Want to be my friend? It was such a great feeling yesterday to head into the post office and drop off all of our Christmas Thank you notes. I think sending a hand written thank you note is a lost cause in today's society. I can remember as a child sitting at the table a few days after Christmas writing out my thank you notes. Thanks Mom!! I now have my children send thank you notes after Birthday's and Christmas.

This year I walked into the kitchen on Christmas Day and Katherine and Rebecca were sitting there writing out their thank you notes. I was thrilled and surprised that they did this unprompted by me! Hayden finished his up on Sunday and Sweet little Abigale was not to be outdone by her siblings. Usually I write out the note and she signs her name. This year she got Tinkerbell notecards in her stocking and she wanted to do it herself!

She wrote out in her best hand "Dear Mimi and Papa, Thank You! Love Abigale. The recipient is going to have to remember what they gave her. haha!

It has been awhile since I posted... with all four kids home it has been a little crazy here at the Wilson house. I had a wonderful Christmas! My favorite gift would have to be my new RED BLACKBERRY CURVE! They should have a group for people to attend because it is so addicting. ....Hello my name is Jennifer and it has been a week since I started using my Blackberry curve!!!!! I am able to read emails, check Facebook out and text my children without it taking me 15 minutes for one line. haha

He is racing all over the country to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He had his first race New Years Day and will run several this year. Yes, We are on Day THREE of no school because of ice and snow. Not much snow but thick ice on the roads. Not sure if the county I live in has ever heard of SNOW PLOWS or SALTING the ROADS!! We do live in Missouri where it does snow about 3 or 4 times a year and we always shut down and school closes!

The kids have had a ball playing on the ice, building snowmen and having their friends spend the night. I was hoping on getting the last bit of my Christmas shopping down without children in tow but that has not happened. I am crossing my fingers that they go back tomorrow so I can have one day without any children. IS that too much to ask??

My Awesome Advent Calendar

About a year and a half ago I sent my Aunt Laura an email with a link to Pink Chalk Studio's blog. She had made the most amazing Advent Calendar. I guess you can say that was kind of a hint that I would like something like this. I can sew, but I can't sew that good. I come from a very crafty and talented family and I knew that Laura could make something of this magnitude. She did not let me down. Last week I got a FedEx box with my Wonderful Advent Calendar. She had made the ornaments and the angel for the top of the tree by hand. It had tons of fun fabric and was quilted all over. The kids have all taken turns putting an ornament on the tree. Abigale had a funny story about who gets to put the angel on the tree on the 25th. You can read about it at Busy Dad's blog.

CHristmas Swap and Good Mail

I came home from Thanksgiving with some great Mail! I had a fun package from Linda. A very sweet Thanksgiving card and some yummy Sees Candy! I am going to hide them from Rebecca- she loves butterscotch! Thanks Linda!

We had a great time visiting all our friends in Alabama during Thanksgiving. We drove to Anniston to visit Grandma Jan and the Gibsons, went to Jacksonville to see Aunt Vickie and Uncle David, went to Montgomery to stay with the Sandlins, and then to Alabaster to see the Cowsars. It was quite eventful when we were driving home and there was sleet and snow in Arkansas. It was not much but there were cars all over the place, in ditches and flipped over. Needless to say I had white knuckles on the steering wheel. We made it home Sunday night around 11:30. The kids made it to school the next day without too much grumbling.

I got home to a full inbox of orders! I love this time of year. I seem to just hole up in my sewing room cranking out orders! I added some new things to the Etsy shop.

Pink Panthers

We were in Kansas City all weekend for the Autumn Bash Soccer tournament. The Pink Panthers had two games on Saturday and were on top leading in to Sunday's games. They won the first Sunday game with an overtime Penalty kick. How nerve wracking was that. This allowed them to play in the Championship game Sunday afternoon.

(I think there is always a silly picture taken after the serious one!)

After a long 60 minutes the Pink Panthers lost the game to come in second in the tournament. They played hard and had lots of fun. Did I mention it was COLD! I think the first game on Saturday with the wind chill was around 33 degrees! They were playing in leggings, hats, gloves, earmuffs etc. That probably weighed them down by an additional 10 pounds.. haha.

Today is ketchup day. I need to ketchup on this blog. Instead of writing long separate posts I am going to just list and post pictures of things that I have put on the back burner.

1)Please go VOTE today!!!

2) My children got all A's on their report card. That's 19 A's folks! I was a happy Mom!

3) Abigale finished out her soccer season on Saturday with 9 goals!

4) Carved pumpkins.

5) We went trick or treating at Busy Dad's office and then rushed home to get kids ready to go out in the neighborhood. Katherine had a party to go to. She is getting so old. 13 years old and going to parties by herself!!

Since Katherine has the broken wrist and has a cast she went as an Injured Auburn Football player, Hayden the Ninja, Abigale had a princess costume but changed her mind at the last minute and wore last years Witch costume. Rebecca designed her own clown costume with some great clothing that we found at my favorite place.

6) Working on orders! I have been making lots of these, these and these for people for Christmas gifts.

7) Finally got Photoshop Elements 7 yesterday at Sams Club! It was cheaper there then at Amazon.com

8) Made my first Christmas card with Photoshop this morning for her. Go say hi...she just started a blog and she lives around the corner from me! She has her own catering and baking company and has the best recipe on her sidebar for pumpkin muffins with cream cheese filling. They are to die for!!

9) Getting ready to host Bunco at my house next Tuesday.

10) Made these cute address labels for my Christmas cards with Jen's help.

I am participating in BooMama's Souptacular Crockpotalooza. This recipe is a staple in our house during the cold Fall and Winter months. I am sure there are lots of these floating around but thought I would share ours.

Taco Soup

Mix the following ingredients in a large crock pot or a big soup pot.
2 lbs browned ground chuck
2 pkg taco seasoning
2 pkg Hidden Valley Ranch dressing (dry pkgs)
1 can shoepeg corn (white corn)
1 can black beans
1 can kidney beans
2 cups water
1- 2 cans rotel (mild, hot whatever your preference)
1 can diced tomatoes

The longer it cooks the better it tastes. Top with sour cream and grated cheese.

Crunchies for the top

Get a package of burrito or soft taco wrappers. Take kitchen scissors and cut them into long strips. Then place on a baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes or until lightly brown. These are great on top of the soup with the cheese and sour cream.

Are you the room mom in charge of putting the goodie bags together? I just made some stickers for my kids treat bags.

They are a full sheet of stickers that have 12 on a page. Just print out the PDF file on Sticker paper. This is a Full Sheet of Sticker paper that you can get at Office Max, Office Depot and other Office supply stores. Then print them out and cut the 12 squares out.

I added a second PDF file that has a Generic Sticker. I took off the Room Mom part.

I put them on white lunch sacks and then filled with goodies!

Every year we Boo our friends and neighbors. We leave candy and goodies on their doorstep and run off to see them open their door. Last year we made caramel corn and filled up plastic hands as part of the boo bag.

The kids also make the really cool pumpkins for our front door.

Think Pink

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and everyone is Thinking Pink. From Yogurt lids, a pink Dyson, and kitchen accessories that are pink.

I started Thinking Pink when I was in college and our sorority (Zeta Tau Alpha) teamed up with the The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I did not know a lot back then but knew that it was a wonderful organization and that I wanted to help.

In 1996 I ran/walked my first Race for the Cure with my 1 year old in the stroller. We we were living in Birmingham, Alabama at the time. I remember all the people that had names on the back of their shirts. They were running and walking for loved ones that had been affected by Breast Cancer.

I am sure that in your community there are races and walks that you could participate in. I highly recommend it. My friend Jen and her daughter walked one this weekend and had a great time.

This morning at 8:25 am I will be having my mammogram. It is not to late to start having these done. I had my first one last year as a baseline and now will have one every year.

Jennifer is turning 39 today October 9th. I convinced her to let me hack her blog to post a special birthday surprise. All of us who know Jen (both family and friends) cannot help but love her. She has been bummed about turning 39 and having her last year being in her 30s. I hope this helps cheer her up.

BTW - Be sure to turn on your speakers - there is some fun music - Also the show turned out long because so many people had great pictures so set aside 12 minutes and enjoy watching Jen!
